Ferma Fair – the largest specialized fair for animal production specialists in Poland

On February 23-25 in Bydgoszcz in the BCTW Hall, the FERMA Fair was held, a meeting for specialists in the breeding and breeding of cattle, pigs and poultry.

During this year’s edition of FERMA, nearly 140 exhibitors presented a wide range of everything necessary in animal breeding, from genetics, through feed and feeding systems, breeding management applications, veterinary medicines and preparations, milking robots, equipment, livestock buildings, harvesting machines and feed conservation, as well as projects and solutions for agricultural biogas plants. The event visited 12,056 animal production specialists from all over Poland, thus consolidating its position as a specialized event for professionals in the breeding industry.

There was the presence of companies from 10 countries, including South Korea, Pakistan, China, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Denmark.

The ceremonial opening of the event was honored by the presence of, among others: Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Stefan Krajewski and Deputy Voivode of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Piotr Hemmerling.

However, the fair is not only about exposing companies. Throughout the history of the event, the scientific and technical conference has been and is an extremely important element every year. This year was exceptionally interesting. On the first day of the Forum for pig breeders, the topagrar Polska debate began. “How to break the spell of the negative image of pig producers? What do we need to speak out loud about?“, attended by, among others, famous YouTubers: Rolnik na każdą okazję and Rolnik NIEprofesjonalny. The next part of this panel was led by Dr. Tomasz Schwarz from the University of Life Sciences in Krakow, and its participants tried to find the answer to the question “Quantity or quality – what is more important in pork production? The Poultry Forum was also held that day, during which the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers discussed the most current problems of the industry, including: regarding its protection against attacks by pseudo-ecologists. Also on Friday, KPODR in Minikowo, together with the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, gave lectures on the health and welfare of cattle, pigs and poultry.

A two-day series of lectures was prepared by the Bydgoszcz University of Technology under the slogan “Science from the region”. On Friday, topics related to plant production were discussed, and on Saturday, the speakers focused on animal production.

For dairy farmers, on the second day of the fair, the Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Milk Producers and invited guests invited to a discussion during the meeting entitled: Dairy industry to people and the environment. Issues related to environmental protection in dairy farming were discussed, as well as the changing needs of consumers, an example of which is the production of A2A2 milk.

A very important element of this year’s FERMA was the 2nd Biogas and Biomethane Summit, during which the Union of Producers and Employers of the Biogas and Biomethane Industry introduced farmers to the possibilities, solutions, benefits and problems related to having a biogas plant on their own farm. Legal, financial, substrate use and digestate management issues were discussed. Owners of already operating installations talked about their experiences.

A real attraction, especially for younger agricultural adepts – although, as it turned out, not only, was the presence of a special Farming Simulator stand, where an interactive adventure with the latest version of this legendary simulation game awaited each visitor. The prepared gaming stations were occupied practically all the time, and each guest could discover the secrets of modern agriculture, manage various crops, breed animals and develop their farm thanks to advanced technologies. The Polish game distributor who organized this zone has already announced its participation in the next edition of the Ferma fair.

Traditionally, the Competition Commission consisting of members of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Chamber of Agriculture and KPODR Minikowo awarded the exhibitors’ products, 11 Gold Medals and 2 New Marks were awarded. Full list of award winners https://targiferma.com.pl/pl/program/nowosci-medale/
